Lifestyles and Wellbeing
Education for Sustainability Vision

Yinnar South Primary School is committed to teaching students practical strategies that support sustainable lifestyles. We aim to reduce and responsibly dispose of waste, foster an appreciation of the environment, develop responsibility by caring for animals both tame and wild, improving biodiversity, and provide quality hands-on learning tasks, such as gardening and cooking, that will enable students to lead sustainable lives.

Our school has chickens that roam the grounds, a vibrant Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden, numerous classroom animals, a dry garden, butterfly garden, frog bog and supporting curriculum that teaches students the importance of a sustainable lifestyle. Students take responsibly for caring for these animals and environments which in turn builds leadership, ownership and pride.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Once a fortnight, the Green Team cook at meal for the school utilizing as much produce as possible from the schools garden. Cooking is an authentic way to build academic skills in speaking and listening, maths, science and literacy, health and wellbeing. Students also learn how to grow produce, prepare and understand the importance of healthy diet.
