Asian Literacy

At Yinnar South all students learn Mandarin. The classes are structured at ability levels enabling targeted teaching for each child.

Our school has an ongoing relationship with a Chinese school based in Taizhou. Our schools connect via video calls approximately once a month. The older students each have a partner who they are able to interact with one-to-one and through email. This personalized program allows students to develop their language skills, cultural understandings and learn through authentic experiences.

Global Citizenship

Our curriculum is designed to provide students with an understanding of the world we live in and the role and responsibilities they have as global citizens. Students learn about local, national and international affairs. We focus an entire term every two years on Culture. This enables students to delve into global issues and understand what makes themselves and others unique. They are encouraged to celebrate difference and recognise that they have a voice. During cooking, students prepare meals from an array of global cuisines and learn why different countries eat different foods. They track their food journey on a map of the world.
These experiences help students develop their cultural understandings and prepares them for success in a globalized world.
